Community Programs

The Hartford Symphony Orchestra COMMUNITY programs a high quality music learning experiences to students, develop relationships with the community, and increase support for music education at the school level. The broad spectrum of musical activities engages, educates, enlivens, and enriches our community with the profound and transforming experience of live music.

The HSO’s popular Thomas Hooker Live series, newly renamed Press Play, continues to attract new and diverse audiences through casual, genre-blending concerts. Held in a relaxed taproom setting, these performances celebrate musical variety—from the 80s to Say it Loud: A Strings Celebration of Soul and a Bridgerton themed event.

Free, family-friendly performances occurred at the Hartford, Farmington, Avon and Simsbury Public Libraries. These informal performances bring orchestral
music into local libraries and inspire audiences of all ages.

HSO musicians performed in health care facilities, senior centers, and senior living communities, o?ering moments of peace and connection through music. These intimate settings fostered dialogue and emotional healing in challenging environments.

In partnership with an area church and temples, Strings of Hope brought an HSO string quartet into sacred community spaces for an evening of inspiration and connection. The intimate concert invited spiritual reflection through classical music, underscoring the power of music to uplift and unify.
