Echoes of Italy

Experience the extraordinary sounds of chamber music in the beautiful and vibrant setting of the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art, under the artistic direction of HSO Concertmaster Leonid Sigal and featuring Hartford Symphony Orchestra musicians. Concerts are presented in collaboration with the Wadsworth Atheneum’s special exhibitions and permanent collections.

Musicians from the Hartford Symphony Orchestra perform a concert of chamber works inspired by the recent acquisition of an important bronze sculpture depicting the god Mars sculpted by Giambologna (1529–1608), one of the leading artists of the Italian Renaissance. Works by Tartini, Menotti, and Dallapiccola draw on themes of mythology and storytelling to celebrate the contributions of pivotal Italian composers.  Before the performance, Vanessa Sigalas, David W. Dangremond Chief Curator, discusses Giambologna and the bronze casting process.
