Huang Wanxinyi
Viola
Wanxinyi Huang is a violist, born in China, currently based at the Yale School of Music, where she is pursuing her Master of Musical Arts (M.M.A.) degree under the guidance of Professor Ettore Causa. She completed her Master of Music (M.M.) degree at Yale and, in 2024. Wanxinyi earned her bachelor’s degree from the National University of Singapore’s Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music in 2018, where she was awarded a full scholarship.Â
An accomplished chamber musician, Wanxinyi has performed internationally with renowned musicians. She is the founder of the chamber group Ensemble ClassiCORE, which recently performed at the Terrace Theater at The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and completed a concert tour in China in 2024. That same year, she participated in the NUME music festival and performed in eight concerts across Europe as part of the Colluvio festival. Her past engagements include performances at the THY Chamber Music Festival in Denmark and a collaboration with Nicholas Alton Lewis, Associate Dean of Bard College, in a performance of Mozart’s Clarinet Quintet. In Singapore, she has performed with the Singapore National Choir at the Voilah Music Festival and at the Victoria Concert Hall in a performance of Tchaikovsky’s Souvenir de Florence.Â
Wanxinyi has also been recognized for her solo performances. She has been invited to compete in the Tertis Viola Competition, has participated in the Prague Spring International Music Competition and the Llanes International Viola Competition and was a semi-finalist in the Klein International Competition. She has received awards from the Paris International Music Competition (2021), the Hong Kong International String Competition (2019), and the Singapore Yong Siew Toh Conservatory Concerto Competition. Wanxinyi has performed in masterclasses with prominent musicians such as Misha Amory, Nobuko Imai, Steven Tenenbom, Hsin-Yun Huang, and Robert Diaz.Â
In addition to her chamber and solo work, Wanxinyi is an active orchestral performer. In 2019, she toured Europe and China with NYO-China under conductor Ludovic Morlot. She has also performed with the Yale Philharmonia and as a guest with orchestras including the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, Sichuan Symphony Orchestra, and the Sichuan City Hall Symphony Orchestra. Her performances have earned her high praise from audiences and peers alike.Â
