Andrew Vinther
Andrew Vinther, 22, has been immersed in musical environments since birth, being raised by a high school band director mother and singer-songwriter father in the Seattle area. Drawn to the double bass by age 8 through its possibility for endless versatility and the need for a foundation
in the family band, he quickly began participating in Seattle Youth Symphony and the local Jazz scene, having the privilege of attending the Essentially Ellington competition in NYC twice, receiving ‘outstanding bassist’ in 2020. Vinther earned his high school diploma from Interlochen Arts Academy after attending for the 2020-21 school year, going on to receive a Bachelor’s in Music from the Juilliard School in spring 2025 and continuing his studies in the Master’s of Music program at the Yale School of Music, where he expects to graduate in 2027. His performance activities include appearances with the Carnegie Hall National Youth Orchestra Alumni All Stars featuring Yuja Wang and Daniil Trifonov, the Juilliard Jazz Orchestra and Juilliard 415, the New World Symphony, American Baroque Orchestra, and extensive
interdisciplinary freelance work in Seattle, NYC, and Connecticut. Community engagement and expanding access to music education are incredibly important to Vinther’s work, demonstrated through his involvement as a Teaching Artist in New Haven Public Schools, private teaching, and previous work with Juilliard’s Marks Center and Music Advancement Program. When not playing the bass, he spends time gardening, riding his bike, and trying to learn other instruments.
