Martha Kayser

Martha was born in Willimantic, CT but grew up in Columbus, OH. She knew she wanted to be an orchestral musician after the first rehearsal of 7th grade orchestra – so many different instruments and tone colors! While getting her Bachelor of Music at Ohio University (Bobcats, not Buckeyes) studying with Galamian-trained Howard Beebe, she was able to gain professional experience in the West Virginia Symphony as they brought in students to fill out the sections. Following that, she played for three years with the Hudson Valley Philharmonic in NY state while her trombonist husband was in the West Point Band. Life brought them back to CT and Martha received her Master of Music at the Hartt school studying with Charles Treger. She has been a proud member of HSO since 1985 and her smile from the stage is always genuine. Martha is also grateful for the varied freelance work that CT has offered over the years, especially broadway shows. She is tremendously proud of her son, daughter, son-in-law, and two adorable granddaughters.
