BEETHOVEN’S VIOLIN CONCERTO

A Masterful Evening of Music with Leonid Sigal

Hartford, CT – October 8, 2024– The Hartford Symphony Orchestra (HSO) is proud to present Beethoven’s Violin Concerto, part of the 2024-2025 Masterworks Series. The concert opens Friday, October 18 at 8PM: with performances continuing Saturday at 8PM and Sunday at 3PM. The program celebrates the twentieth anniversary of HSO’s beloved Concertmaster, Leonid Sigal. In a unique performance, Sigal will not only conduct the orchestra, but also take the spotlight as the featured soloist, performing Beethoven’s iconic Concerto for Violin in D major, op. 61.

Program Highlights:

  • Simon, Fate Now Conquers: This contemporary work combines emotional intensity with dynamic energy, setting the stage for the evening’s captivating journey.
  • Beethoven, Concerto for Violin in D major, op. 61: The highlight of the evening, this timeless masterpiece is known for its lyrical beauty and technical brilliance.
  • Bizet, Symphony No.1 in C major: This a rare and thrilling musical experience is a bright and spirited composition, showcasing the composers mastery of orchestration and melodic charm with a freshness that belies his young age when he wrote it

Leonid Sigal, affectionately known as “Lenny,” marks this milestone season with a performance that promises to showcase the full range of his talents as both a conductor and violinist. We are thrilled to celebrate Lenny’s remarkable contributions to the HSO.

Carlos Simon, a highly sought-after composer, is known for blending classical music with influences of jazz, gospel, and neo-romanticism. Currently the Composer-In-Residence at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and the inaugural Boston Symphony Orchestra Composer Chair, Simon has been nominated for a 2023 GRAMMY award for his album Requiem for the Enslaved.
