Violinist Xiaoxuan Shi joined the Hartford Symphony Orchestra as Principle Second Violin in December 2019 while studying at Yale of Music with Prof. Hyo Kang. She received her Master’s degree from the Juilliard School, where she studied with Catherine Cho, and received her Bachelor’s degree from the National University of Singapore, Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, under the tutelage of Prof. Qian Zhou.
Xiaoxuan has won numerous competitions including the Singapore International Violin Competition, Chengdu Guangya invitational Violin Competition, the VIVO-S International Music Competition, the Adelphi Yong Artist Competition, Yong Siew Toh Conservatory Concerto Competition, the Singapore National Violin Competition(Artist category) and the China National Youth Violin Competition(Junior category). She has appeared as soloist with the Adelphi Orchestra, Singapore Metropolitan Festival Orchestra, Yong Siew Toh Conservatory Orchestra and Yong Siew Toh Conservatory String Chamber Ensemble.
Xiaoxuan served as concertmaster in Singapore Yong Siew Toh Conservatory Orchestra, and Yong Siew Toh Conservatory String Chamber Ensemble since 2014. She served in leadership positions in Aspen Chamber Symphony, Japan MMCJ Orchestra and the Yale Philharmonia. As an avid chamber musician, she has performed with Shlomo Mintz, Renaud Capuçon, and members of La Bande de La Loingtaine and London Sinfonietta. She has participated in music festivals such as Juilliard ChamberFest, Aspen Music Festival, Keshet Eilon Violin Summer Master Class, and played in master classes for Vadim Repin, Midori, Renaud Capuçon, and Leonidas Kavakos.
