Symphony veteran Stephen Collins will join the Hartford Symphony Orchestra (HSO) as Director of Artistic Operations and Administration effective August 11, 2014. Collins is an orchestra management professional who has led several regional orchestras to unprecedented levels of financial achievement as well as artistic and education program development.

Most recently, his work with the Waterbury Symphony Orchestra resulted in a revitalized artistic vision, a successful system of concert and special event production, and quadrupled endowment and designated fund assets.  He also has experience as Director of Education and Community Engagement with the New Haven Symphony Orchestra and as Librarian and Education Consultant for the Greater Bridgeport Symphony. In addition to his Bachelor of Music from The Hartt School, Collins has major performing and teaching experience in orchestras that include section and principal percussion positions, musical theater and freelance percussion engagements, and private teaching and guest instruction throughout the region.

David Fay, President and CEO of The Bushnell and CEO of the HSO commented, “We are remarkably fortunate to have someone of Steve’s expertise and talent join us in managing the HSO. He brings years of practical experience as a musician and arts administrator and will help to keep the HSO on its current path of artistic excellence and successful growth.”
