Ring in the new year when the HSO presents The Four Seasons January 17-19
HARTFORD, CT (December 17, 2019) – Start the New Year off right with the Hartford Symphony Orchestra’s first concert of 2020: The Four Seasons! The HSO presents The Four Seasons Friday, January 17 through Sunday, January 19 at The Bushnell in Hartford. These concerts will be conducted by HSO Musical Director Carolyn Kuan and feature violinist Randall Goosby. For tickets and information, call 860-987-5900 or visit hartfordsymphony.org.
This program features Assad’s Suite for Lower Strings, Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons, Op. 8, No. 1-4, and Ginastera’s Variaciones concertantes, Op. 23. The Four Seasons is the Koski Memorial Concert.
Vivaldi’s beloved The Four Seasons, which will feature dynamic young violinist Randall Goosby, brings to life babbling brooks, summer storms, hunting parties, and cozy winter fires. Brazilian-American composer Clarice Assad gives us a contemporary twist on a Baroque composer with Suite for Lower Strings, based on themes by J.S. Bach. Ginastera’s Variaciones concertantes is a brilliantly orchestrated taste of Argentina.
Please join us for a pre-concert talk led by Carolyn Kuan one hour prior to curtain of each performance.
About Randall Goosby
American violinist Randall Goosby first performed as a soloist with orchestra at the age of nine, with the Jacksonville Symphony. When he performed with the New York Philharmonic on a Young People’s Concert at Avery Fisher Hall at the age of 13, The New York Times raved that he “exerted a masterly level of control and lavished an exquisite tone…his performance won him a deserved standing ovation for its sheer virtuosity.”
At 13, Mr. Goosby was the youngest recipient ever to win the Sphinx Concerto Competition, which led to an invitation by Tony-nominated actor Delroy Lindo to perform at the 18th MOVIEGUIDE® Faith & Values Awards Gala in Beverly Hills. He also received Sphinx’s Isaac Stern Award, and made two appearances at Carnegie Hall as part of the organization’s Young Artist Development Program. He has participated in The Perlman Music Program’s Chamber Music Workshop, been featured on National Public Radio’s “From the Top,” and been honored as Rising Star of the Stradivari Society.
Randall Goosby began violin studies at the age of seven. He received a full scholarship to The Juilliard School’s Pre-College program, continued at Juilliard as an undergraduate student of Itzhak Perlman and Catherine Cho, and is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree there on a Kovner Fellowship there under the tutelage of two YCA alumni, Donald Weilerstein and Laurie Smukler. Mr. Goosby plays a Giuseppe Guarneri del Gesu of 1735, on generous loan from the Stradivari Society.
