Kenny Piatt

Kenny Piatt is an active freelance trumpet player with a love for Romantic symphonies and Baroque piccolo trumpet solos. He is currently acting 3rd Trumpet of the Hartford Symphony Orchestra and frequently performs across New England as an orchestral and chamber musician with the Vermont Symphony Orchestra, Waterbury Symphony Orchestra, Eastern Connecticut Symphony Orchestra, and Vista Philharmonic Orchestra, among other ensembles. He has also appeared with the Canton Symphony Orchestra, Akron Symphony Orchestra, Pittsburgh Ballet and Opera Orchestra, Wheeling Symphony Orchestra, and Dayton Philharmonic.

As an educator, Kenny has held trumpet faculty positions at The University of Mount Union, Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, and Fairmont State University. Kenny is also a “trumpet gearhead,” and his doctoral dissertation compiled an exhaustive compendium of instrument specifications and playing characteristics across major trumpet manufacturers. This passion for all things trumpet has led him to his position at the S.E. Shires Company, where he helps develop and build high-quality custom trumpets and trombones.

Kenny earned his D.M.A. in trumpet performance from West Virginia University. He holds an M.M. from Ohio University and a B.M.E. from The University of Akron.
