Hartford (March 16, 2021) – Welcome, spring!  The Hartford Symphony Orchestra Spotlight Series is a brand-new way to experience the HSO – and this month, we put the spotlight on the music of brass and woodwind instruments! Spotlight: Wind Power – Music for Brass & Woodwinds, was filmed at the Theater of the Performing Arts at the Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts and will be available on-demand March 19-April 11. Tickets are on sale now. Tickets and information are available at hartfordsymphony.org.

The HSO Spotlight Series is a brand-new way to experience the HSO! Each month, the HSO will premiere a 60-minute performance by HSO ensembles and guests recorded at exciting venues in and around Hartford, and available on-demand for a limited time.

Spotlight: Wind Power – Music for Brass & Woodwinds will feature Eric Ewazen’s A Western Fanfare; Lauren Bernofsky’s Passacaglia; Reena Esmail’s Tuttaranna; George Walker’s Music for Brass, Sacred and Profane, “Choral: Liebster Jesu, wir sind hier”; Samuel Scheidt’s Canzona Bergamasca; Valerie Coleman’s Umoja; Carl Nielsen’s Wind Quintet, Op. 43, Mvt. I “Allegro ben moderato”; Amy Beach’s Pastorale for Wind Quintet; and Traditional (arr. Eddie Sundra) Amazing Grace.

The performance features gifted HSO musicians Eddie Sundra, HSO Assistant Principal Clarinet; Pinghua Felix Ren, HSO Assistant Principal Bassoon; Scott McIntosh, HSO Principal Trumpet; John Charles Thomas, HSO Assistant Principal Trumpet; Barbara Hill, HSO Principal Horn; Brian L. Diehl, HSO Principal Trombone; and guest musicians Dominique Kim, Flute; Cheryl Bishkoff, Oboe; Adam Crowe, Tuba.
