Hartford Symphony Orchestra presents On Angels’ Wings: Beethoven, Tchaikovsky & Beyond at Wadsworth Atheneum March 22
Concert is part of HSO’s Sunday Serenades Chamber Music Series
The Hartford Symphony Orchestra will present On Angels’ Wings: Beethoven, Tchaikovsky & Beyond, the second concert of the 2014-2015 Sunday Serenades Chamber Music Series on Sunday, March 22 at 2:00 p.m. at the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art. Sunday Serenades Artistic Director and HSO Concertmaster Leonid Sigal will be joined by HSO Associate Concertmaster Lisa Rautenberg, HSO Principal Violist Michael Wheeler, HSO Assistant Principal Violist Sharon Dennison, HSO Assistant Principal Cellist Eric Dahlin, HSO Cellist Peter Zay, and HSO Principal Pianist, Margreet Francis for this performance.
This concert program takes inspiration from a selection of old master paintings paired side by side with contemporary works in the Wadsworth Atheneum. Spanning the 14th through the 20th centuries, these works resonate with one another across time and present innovative perspectives on subject matter and form, including several images of angels and Cupid on the wing. The complementary musical works include Beethoven’s Violin Sonata No. 5 “Spring,” Schoenfield’s Café Music, and Tchaikovsky’s Souvenir de Florence.
Sunday Serenades chamber music concerts are presented in collaboration with the Wadsworth Atheneum of Art as a musical counterpart to special exhibitions and the permanent collections. Concerts take place in the museum galleries and feature Sunday Serenades Artistic Director and HSO Concertmaster Leonid Sigal and HSO musicians. The Sunday Serenades Chamber Music Series is made possible, in part, by the Helen M. Saunders Charitable Foundation Music Endowment at the Wadsworth Atheneum.
