Hartford Symphony Orchestra Presents Color & Texture: Beethoven & Ives at the Wadsworth Atheneum as part of the Sunday Serenades Series

HARTFORD, CT (October 23, 2019) – Art meets music at the first Sunday Serenades of the season! The Hartford Symphony Orchestra presents Color & Texture: Beethoven & Ives on November 10, 2019 at 2 pm at the Wadsworth Atheneum in Hartford. A pre-concert gallery talk will take place at 1 pm. The desire to surround ourselves with beauty is universal and timeless. The exhibition Design in the American Home, 1650-1850 shows how the quest for color, texture, and splendor propels artful design.  Enjoy a program of music that evokes the power of design, including Ives’ String Quartet No. 1 “From the Salvation Army,” and Beethoven’s Quintet in A Major, Op. 47, “Kreutzer.”

Sunday Serenades chamber music concerts are presented in collaboration with the Wadsworth Atheneum as a musical counterpart to special exhibitions and the permanent collections. Concerts take place in the museum galleries and feature Sunday Serenades Artistic Director and HSO Concertmaster Leonid Sigal and select HSO musicians. The Sunday Serenades chamber music series is made possible, in part, by the Saunders Foundation Music Endowment at the Wadsworth Atheneum and Nancy D. Grover in honor of Leonid Sigal, Concertmaster, Hartford Symphony Orchestra
