It’s a season of celebration! The Hartford Symphony Orchestra kicks off its 75th anniversary season with Pictures at an Exhibition starting on Friday, October 5 and running through Sunday, October 7, in the Belding Theater at The Bushnell in Hartford. These concerts will be led by HSO Music Director, Carolyn Kuan, and are part of the Masterworks Series. Visit hartfordsymphony.org for tickets and information.
This program features Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition and Bartók’s Concerto for Orchestra. The New Britain Museum of American Art has curated an exhibit that provides a modern interpretation of the visual art that inspired Modest Mussorgsky’s landmark work?Pictures at an Exhibition.?Images of the artwork from this exhibit will be projected on-screen at each performance.

The HSO’s second annual naturalization ceremony, where 10 Connecticut residents will take the oath to become U.S. citizens, will take place prior to the concert on Saturday, October 6 at 6:30 pm. This ceremony is open to October 6 ticketholders. Additional information on this ceremony will be announced soon.
Mussorgsky’s evocative showpiece?Pictures at an Exhibition was inspired by his walk through an exhibit of watercolors and drawings by a close friend. Bartók’s virtuosic Concerto for Orchestra moves from darkness to light, in the work that established the composer as a master of his craft.
