School Programs

The Hartford Symphony Orchestra education programs a high quality music learning experiences to students, develop relationships with the community, and increase support for music education at the school level. The broad spectrum of musical activities engages, educates, enlivens, and enriches our community with the profound and transforming experience of live music.

HSO Musicians and small ensembles present school-day programs for students of all ages.

Our Discovery Concerts introduce elementary-aged students to the world of orchestral music through original, interactive programs. These weekday concerts, held at the Bushnell Center for the Performing Arts, highlight cultural, historical, and scientific concepts in alignment with Common Core and National Core Arts standards.

Kids have an opportunity to play stringed, brass, woodwind, and hand percussion instruments with the support of an HSO musician.

Instruments included: Violin, viola, cello, recorder, flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, baritone horn, trombone, tuba, drums, guiro, triangle, sleigh bells, tambourine, glockenspiel, egg shakers, maracas, wood block, cowbell, spoons, claves, and tone block. Multiple violins, recorders, flutes, trumpets, trombones, and drums available to maximize student participation. Inventory subject to change.
