The most common reason we hear when people stop coming to the HSO is “I have no one to go with.”

Maybe it’s the loss of a best friend who moved away, or maybe it was divorce or death that ended a marriage. Whatever the reason, people who find themselves alone tend to isolate, and pull away from social activities such as music, losing the very thing that brought them joy.

Music unites. The Hartford Symphony Orchestra is always searching for new ways to bring people together. Most importantly, we want you to continue your ongoing love affair with the music, and never worry about sitting alone at a Symphony performance.

That’s what inspired us to create COMMUNITY FRIENDS.

With HSO Community Friends, you will have the option of sitting with like-minded symphony fans, so that you’ll never feel alone when you attend a performance at the Hartford Symphony. In addition, you may attend a pre-concert dessert/coffee reception, where we hope you’ll meet new travel partners who have expressed a willingness to transport new friends.

Due to current restrictions on large gatherings, the remainder of the 2021-2022 season has been cancelled. The 2021-2022 HSO season will be announced in spring/summer 2021. We look forward to seeing you!

  • Each of the 5 Sunday concerts will feature a 1:00 pm coffee/tea and dessert reception at the modest price of $8 per person per concert. The reception will give you time to attend the free 2:00 pm pre-concert talk that precedes the 3:00 pm performance.
  • Reservations are encouraged for an accurate count. To attend, please RSVP to Ruth Sovronsky at 860-760-7321 or rsovronsky@hartfordsymphony.org.  Advance payment may be made by check or credit card.
  • Participant name tags will include your town of residence, to help you meet new friends in your community.

  • For each of the five designated Sunday performances of Masterworks, a block of seats will be set aside for purchase in COMMUNITY FRIENDS, to be used by those who do not currently have a ticket and/or who wish to sit with a new friend.
  • If you want to participate, but already have a subscription, you may certainly keep your seat! As a subscriber, you can always exchange your seats at any time (at no cost) if you’d like to try sitting with COMMUNITY FRIENDS for one or more performances.
  • If you don’t yet have a ticket, you have many options:
    • You may buy a ticket just for one performance (at $54 per seat) OR
    • You may purchase a Flex Card ($354 for ten tickets) OR
    • Or, you may purchase a six-concert subscription for as low as $198 per subscription seat, and upon request, you can have your subscription in the Community Friends area. The next subscription level is $258 for all six performances.*

  • To assist you with all seating requests for our Community Friends program, please call the HSO box office number, 860-244-2999, Monday through Friday, 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. Just ask for COMMUNITY FRIENDS seating when you purchase your ticket(s).

No matter how you choose to attend, the opportunity to meet new friends is important, so each of the five designated Sunday afternoon Masterworks performances will feature the pre-concert 1:00 pm coffee/tea/dessert reception, at a price of $8 per person for each reception.

*all prices are subject to change and may not be inclusive to all fees
