Brahms and Haydn

Brahms and Haydn
Friday, November 15, 2019 - Sunday, November 17, 2019
Belding Theater at The Bushnell
Friday & Saturday at 8 PM
Sunday at 3 PM
What’s interesting about this concert?
- It is surprising to note that Brahms’ masterful Variations on a Theme of Haydn is not inspired by a Haydn composition at all; rather, the theme – “St. Anthony’s Chorale” – is thought to have been written by Haydn’s student, and misattributed.
- Haydn’s grand Symphony No. 103, nicknamed “The Drum Roll,” was one of the composer’s 12 renowned London Symphonies, written during a particularly joyful and prolific time of his life.
- Theofanidis’ Drum Circles is a brand-new concerto for percussion and orchestra, co-commissioned by the HSO and featuring The Percussion Collective.
