Ann has been a member of the Hartford Symphony viola section for 40 years. She has been Chair of the Orchestra Committee, was a member of the HSO Board for 16 years, and has served on many HSO committees. Her major teachers were Sam Kissel – NBC Symphony, Richard Blum – Pro Arte Quartet, Endel Kalam – Marlborough Festival, and Bernard Kadinoff – Boston Symphony.
Ann is Managing Director of Orchestra New England in New Haven, the Chestnut Hill Concert series in Old Saybrook, and the Collomore concert series in Chester, and is Development Manager at Elizabeth Park. In her “spare” time, she writes grants for several area arts organizations.
Ann is a past president of ROPA – the Regional Orchestra Players Association, served on the Advisory Board of the Symphony Orchestra Institute (SOI), and for 20 years was Senior Editor at Polyphonic.org, a website for symphony musicians hosted at the Eastman School of Music.
In her “deep past,” she worked for the Yale Computer Science Department in the late 70s (and thus has been on the Internet, then called the DARPAnet, since 1977!). She was Director of Marketing at an Artificial Intelligence company in New Haven, and later a free-lance technical writer for many area software companies.
She is married to Algis Kaupas, a retired sound recordist and honored photographer; they live a block from Long Island Sound in Branford. Ann holds a B.A. in Music from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and an M.A. in International Relations from Yale University.
