Mentoring
Programs
Symphony At… Concerts
The Hartford Symphony Orchestra’s “side
by side” program provides multiple opportunities for professional
and student musicians to work together. For each program, this
collaboration culminates with a formal concert for the community.
The school’s student band, orchestra, chorus and soloists work
with HSO musicians and a guest conductor during rehearsals and
coaching sessions prior to the dress rehearsal and concert. Symphony
At . . . provides mentoring situations for students to improve
their performance skills and creates an unforgettable concert
experience for the entire community.
Master Classes And Workshops With Guest
Artists
The Hartford Symphony Orchestra provides
opportunities for its own musicians and solo guest artists to
interact with students and various community organizations. Many
master classes and workshops are open to the general public. Please
call Dan Trahey at 860.246.8742, ext. 369 if you are interested
in hosting a master class at your location.
HSO Master Teaching Artists
The professional musicians of the HSO expertly
coach middle and high school instrumental students in small ensembles
or as part of a sectional. This program is an excellent opportunity
for the ensemble director who may not be proficient in every instrument,
but is required to direct all students. Fee: $200, includes tickets
for participants to attend an HSO concert and go back stage for
a chat with their coach!
Student Internships
A limited number of unpaid undergraduate
internships in the HSO’s Marketing and Education departments are
available each season. Students must be available 10 – 12 hours
a week. Junior internships provide middle and high school students
with a taste of the music business. Time commitments vary depending
on junior intern’s schedule and the HSO’s needs.
Student Volunteers
Do your students need community service
hours to graduate high school? The HSO Education Department has
numerous opportunities available, including assisting with Pre-Concert
Kids Activities and other hands-on workshops.
